AWARD-WINNING WORK

"Zu spät" ("To late") Oil painting 80x100cm

Work awarded in the 7th. Hamburg Painting Biennial 2018 "Environment in Ecological Discourse - Biodiversity"

Title: "Zu spät" ("To late")
Oil painting 80x100cm

Work description:

This work represents the end of civilization. The characters lost hope and show us a moment of desolation, hunger, sadness, misery, fear and agony. They have nothing left. This is what awaits you.

Biodiversity is the variety of life forms that exist on our planet and the relationship between them in different ecosystems. Human beings, as part of it, are destroying it faster than any natural catastrophe. We are depleting natural resources by compulsively buying things we don't need. We pollute the air with the processing of energy such as coal. We are poisoning the waters and eliminating ecosystems. The largest jungles in the world are being destroyed. Species that we know become extinct every day. We are the problem. We are disconnected from mother nature.

Science and technology have made great discoveries but I think we are not intelligent enough, nor aware of our actions. We have the ability to evolve in harmony with each other and the environment. Let's change our attitude or it will be "Too late."
